About

Hello, I am Lee Soyul.

I work to explain the history and meaning of Korean shamanism (musok) in an accessible way. I share, in plain language, stories such as why the bangul (bells) and buchae (fans) are shaken, the meaning of the obanggi (five-directional flags), and saengki bokdeok, the method of choosing auspicious days. I have also prepared a series that walks step by step through the form of musok from prehistoric times through the Joseon period and the Japanese colonial era.

Musok history, saengki-bokdeok, obangi
